An Article On Green Wastewater Treatment

By Joshua Butler

Most people who live in the rural areas usually dispose their wastewater using septic tanks and drain fields. This is a method which has been used for ages. However, for those individuals who live in areas which have a fragile environment or the supply of water is not sufficient, there are other alternatives to this. In connection to this, the following is information on green wastewater treatment.

Treatment can be done by the use of composting toilets. These are those which require little or no water use. In addition to that, they do not have to be connected to a sewer system for them to operate effectively. This mainly works by providing an enclosed environment where the natural process of aerobic decomposition can take place.

There are different reasons which make people opt for these composting toilets. Most people prefer them because they are able to conserve the limited water which is available. Other than that, another merit to this is that individuals, especially farmers, are able to access the compost directly without having to first let it flow to the environment.

Electrical incinerating toilets can also be used. Once they are put in the right order, they lead to the production of ash. The down set of this however is that this ash cannot be used as fertilizer in gardening. This is because the process of incineration destroys the available nutrients. Just like the above, this one does not use water.

Incinerating toilets are usually odorless as compared to other portable ones. There are some which have to be operated after every use while others cannot be used while incineration is taking place. Before deciding to use them, it is important for one to research on their installation and use so as to determine whether they are the best fit for them.

Innovation has come up with new ways to treat and re-use wastewater onsite. This can be owed to advancement in technology and it has gone a long way in seeing to it that the available water is conserved. This has however faced a lot of criticism by people who claim that the wastewater is not effectively treated. They consider this a danger to the general public which can raise health issues.

Septic tank effluent filters offer a way to make the liquid wastewater flow but prevent solids from entering the septic field. These include materials which cannot be processed such as human hair. They instead interfere with the treatment process in general. Their usual location is the outlet of a septic tank, collecting solids which may be making their way from the tank.

To sum up the above, it is important to make sure that the environment is taken care of at all costs. This means that no wastewater should be released in the environment in an untreated state. Because there are many ways of treating it, good research should be done so as to select the most effective one and at minimal cost.
