Workplace Safety Suggestions: Commercial Fire Systems

By Mark Mahaffey

Since businesses are destroyed each year by fire, it is up to you as a business owner to do everything you can to prevent your business from joining the statistics. One smart thing to do is to have a commercial fire system installed in your office. This will help to protect you, your staff and your business.

No commercial fire system can guarantee that you will not experience a fire in your business, but does it not make sense to do all that you can to decrease the chances that it will happen to you. The smartest move is to take action and put some measures in place that will not only prevent fires from breaking out in the first place, but also warn you if one does happen.

You can stop fires from breaking out in the first place by keeping a close eye on your wiring. Is your office in an older building? If so, the wiring may be frayed or dangerous. Fires from electrical wiring are not uncommon, but you can protect yourself by having an electrician come and check out your wiring to see if it is safe.

In the event of a fire emergency, the sooner you get notified of the fire, the more likely you will be able to escape to safety. This is where good smoke and heat detectors come into play. These inexpensive appliances can warn you about a fire before it rages out of control, and you can get out of the building.

In order to slow a fire down once it starts, you can install sprinkler systems. Sprinkler systems work by spraying water on fires. This water may help to keep the fire contained until the fire department gets there.

Make sure that you hire a monitoring company to oversee your system from a remote location. If you smoke and heat detectors are activated because of a fire in your building, the company can receive an alert and call the fire department on your behalf.
